Best Villages to Visit in the Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is a large place – roughly 800 square miles in fact. It stretches across six counties (Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Somerset) and features a number of beautiful towns and villages to explore.

With so many interesting locations to visit and explore, including entire quaint villages and manor houses, it can often be daunting trying to figure out which ones you want to prioritise, especially if you’re limited in time.

Here at Cotswolds Adventures, we have put together, in our opinion, five of the best villages to visit in the Cotswolds:

Snowshill is truly one of the hidden gems of the Cotswolds that always leaves an impression on those who visit. This beautiful little village is renowned for its nearby lavender fields, as well as its manor house and stunning church.

Castle Combe

Castle Combe has been voted the prettiest village in England more than once, and for this reason alone it’s really worth a visit. The village is focused around its 14th century Market Cross and started out as a hill fort occupied by the Romans.

Not only is Stanway a pretty village with a Jacobean Manor House still owned by the Earl of Wemys, but this quaint little town has a water fountain that rises to over 300 feet – making it the tallest gravity fed fountain in the world.

Broadway & Broadway Tower

Broadway is often known as the ‘jewel of the Cotswolds’. This medieval town has a strong association with the arts and crafts movement that became famous in the Cotswolds during the 19th century.

Once the site of an Iron Age fort, Malmesbury is an unspoilt hilltop market town with an ancient abbey originally founded in 675 and rebuilt again in the 12th century. The Abbey is one of few which survived Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries.
